Spironolactone 25/100mg
Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic drug, which
is a renal competitive aldosterone antagonist. It increases sodium chloride
and water excretion while conserving potassium and hydrogen ions. The body lose
water. So Spironolactone doesn't treat hypertension directly. It decrease amounts
of water and that way the blood pressure goes down.
Usage.
Spironolactone is used to treat:
- hypertension;
- primary hyperaldosteronism;
- hypokalemia;
- hirsutism;
- cirrhosis of liver accompanied by edema or ascites
Drug interactions.
Spironolactone may interact with such drugs, as:
- ACE inhibitors
- Cholestyramine
- Digoxin
- Potassium supplements
- Salicylates
- NSAIDs
Spironolactone possible side effects.
