Ramipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor,
which prevents the formation of angiotensin II from angiotensin I and leads
to relaxing of arterial muscles and enlarging of the arteries. This decreases
a blood pressure.
Ramipril is a prodrug and is converted to the active metabolite
ramiprilat.
Usage.
Ramipril is used to treat:
- hypertension;
- congestive heart failure;
- left ventricular dysfunction after myocardial infarction
Drug interactions.
Ramipril may interact with such drugs, as:
- Alpha1 blockers
- Aspirin
- Diuretics
- Insulin
- Lithium
- Mercaptopurine
- NSAIDs
- Potassium-sparing diuretics
- Trimethoprim (high dose)
