What is Atarax?
It is tablets or capsules of antihistamine Hydroxyzine. It is used for the
treatment of itches and irritations, reduces nausea, and also it is an anxiolytic
for the treatment of anxiety. It may help with pain relief after surgery.
Atarax dosage.
Generic Atarax is distributed as tablets with strengths of 10, 25 and 50 mg.
Capsules: 25, 50, and 100 mg.. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not
take your medicine more often than directed.
For treating pruritus - 25 mg 3 - 4 times daily.
For sedation - 50 - 100 mg 4 times daily.
Atarax and children.
To use Atarax in children special care may be needed.
Atarax and pregnancy.
Do not take Atarax if you are pregnant or breast-feeding a baby, because it
is not known whether hydroxyzine will harm your baby.
Atarax side effects.
- sedation,
- tiredness,
- sleepiness,
- disturbed coordination,
- dry mouth,
- stomach distress,
- blurred vision, double vision,
- tremor,
- loss or appetite.
Caution:
Persons with narrow-angle glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, hypertension,cardiovascular
disease, asthma, prostatic hypertrophy should use Hidroxizine with extra care.
Atarax and other drugs.
Atarax may interact with other medicines like:
- other antihistamines,
- phenothiazines,
- antidepressants,
- alcohol,
- barbiturate medicines, like phenobarbital
- medicines for colds,
- muscle relaxants

What is the shelf life of the pills?
- The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
