Verapamil 40/80/120/240mg

Verapamil is an L-type calcium channel blocker. It leads to relaxation of coronary vascular smooth muscle and coronary vasodilation; increases myocardial oxygen delivery in patients with vasospastic angina.

Usage.

Verapamil is used to treat:

• hypertension,
• angina pectoris,
• cardiac arrhythmia

Drug interactions.

Verapamil may interact with such drugs, as:

• blood pressure medications
• Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
• Potassium salts or potassium supplements
• Lithium
• Mercaptopurine
• NSAIDs
• Potassium-sparing diuretics
• Trimethoprim (high dose)
  
  

Verapamil possible side effects.

• dizziness
• headache
• rash
• gingival hyperplasia
• bradycardia
• hypotensia
• constipation
• nausea

Verapamil and pregnancy / lactation.

Use in pregnancy only when clearly needed and when the benefits outweigh the potential risk to the fetus.

Do not use during breast-feeding.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
