Captopril 25mg

Captopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE inhibitor). It prevents conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. This causes an increase of renin activity and a reduction in aldosterone secretion. The result - a decrease of blood pressure.

Usage.

Captopril is used to treat:

• hypertension,
• myocardial infarction
• congestive heart failure
• diabetic nephropathy

Drug interactions.

Captoprill may interact with such drugs, as:

• blood pressure medications
• Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
• Potassium salts or potassium supplements
• Lithium
• Mercaptopurine
• NSAIDs
• Potassium-sparing diuretics
• Trimethoprim (high dose)

Captopril possible side effects.

• hypotension
• tachycardia
• chest pain
• rash
• hyperkalemia
• neutropenia
• proteinuria
• cough

Captopril and pregnancy / lactation.

Avoid using during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
