Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, so that glucose in the blood cannot be absorbed into the cells of the body.

There are 2 types of diabetes:

1. Type 1 with diminished production of insulin
2. Type 2 with resistance to insulins effects

Both lead to hyperglycaemia, which largely causes the acute signs of diabetes:

• Frequent urination
• Excessive thirst
• Extreme hunger
• Unusual weight loss
• Increased fatigue
• Irritability
• Blurry vision

Treatment

Type 1 - injections by a syringe or insulin pump

Type 2 - combination of meal planning for blood sugar control, weight loss, and exercising, medications and insulin supplementation.
