Fluconazole 50, 100, 150, 200 mg
Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal drug, which decreases
ergosterol synthesis in fungal cell membrane and inhibits cell membrane formation.
It is fungistatic, but it may be fungicidal against certain organisms in a dose-dependent
manner.
Fluconazole is active against: Blastomyces dermatitidis, Candida
spp., Coccidioides immitis, Cryptococcus neoformans and some others.
Usage.
Fluconazole is used to treat:
- candidiasis (vaginal, oropharyngeal, esophageal)
- urinary tract infections,
- peritonitis, pneumonia,
- cryptococcal meningitis,
- onychomycosis,
- to prevent fungal infections from occurring in people with suppressed immune
systems
Drug interactions.
Fluconazole is an inhibitor of the human cytochrome P450 system, so it may
interact any drug metabolised by these enzymes.
Diflucan (Fluconazole) possible side effects.
- Dizziness,
- headache,
- fever,
- nausea, vomiting
- an allergic reaction
- liver damage
- rash.
Diflucan (Fluconazole) and pregnancy / lactation.
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit to the
mother outweighs any potential risk to the fetus.
Do not take this medication if you are breast-feeding a baby.
What is the shelf life of the pills?
- The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
