Venlafaxine 37.5/75mg
Venlafaxine is an antidepressant of the class serotonin-norepinephrine
reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). It is a potent inhibitor of neuronal serotonin and
norepinephrine reuptake and weak inhibitor of dopamine reuptake.Venlafaxine
is similar in efficacy to the tricyclic antidepressants amitriptyline and imipramine.
Because of its side effects it is not recommended as a first
line treatment of depression.
Usage.
Venlafaxine is used to treat:
- depression
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- chronic fatigue syndrome;
- hot flashes;
- neuropathic pain;
- autism in children
Drug interactions.
Venlafaxine may interact with such drugs, as:
- alcohol
- amphetamine
- cimetidine
- furazolidone
- linezolid
- lithium
- medicines for heart rhythm or blood pressure
- medications for weight control or appetite
- procarbazine
Venlafaxine possible side effects.
- Dizziness,
- headache,
- abnormal ejaculation/orgasm
- nausea, vomiting
Venlafaxine and pregnancy / lactation.
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit to the
mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus.
Do not take this medication if you are breast-feeding a baby.
What is the shelf life of the pills?
