Metronidazole 250 mg
Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole anti-infective medication, which destroys
the DNA helical structure and inhibits nucleic acid synthesis in bacteria.
What is Flagyl (metronidazole) used for?
It is used for the treatment of:
- abdominal infections,
- bone and joint infections,
- gynecologic infections,
- respiratory tract infections,
- skin infections,
- CNS infections
Metronidazole possible side effects
- an allergic reaction ;
- numbness or tingling;
- dizziness or loss of coordination;
- erythematous rash
- cystitis,
- darkened urine (rare),
- vaginitis,
- thrombocytopenia (reversible, rare)
Drug Interactions
Metronidazole may interact with:
- Cimetidine
- Lithium
- Phenytoin
- Cisapride
Metronidazole and pregnancy / lactation.
It may be used for the treatment of trichomoniasis during the first trimester
of pregnancy, unless alternative treatment is inadequate.
During lactation - don't use. What is the shelf life of the pills?
