Metronidazole 250 mg

Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole anti-infective medication, which destroys the DNA helical structure and inhibits nucleic acid synthesis in bacteria.

What is Flagyl (metronidazole) used for?

It is used for the treatment of:

• abdominal infections,
• bone and joint infections,
• gynecologic infections,
• respiratory tract infections,
• skin infections,
• CNS infections
  
  

Metronidazole possible side effects

• an allergic reaction ;
• numbness or tingling;
• dizziness or loss of coordination;
• erythematous rash
• cystitis,
• darkened urine (rare),
• vaginitis,
• thrombocytopenia (reversible, rare)
  
  

Drug Interactions

Metronidazole may interact with:

• Cimetidine
• Lithium
• Phenytoin
• Cisapride

Metronidazole and pregnancy / lactation.

It may be used for the treatment of trichomoniasis during the first trimester of pregnancy, unless alternative treatment is inadequate.

During lactation - don't use.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
