Alendronic acid or alendronate sodium is a bisphosphonate
drug which inhibits bone resorption leading to an indirect increase in bone
mineral density.
Usage
Alendronate is used to treat:
- osteoporosis in postmenopausal females;
- osteoporosis in males;
- Paget's disease of the bone
Drug interactions
Alendronate may interact with such drugs, as:
- Aspirin
- Oral medications (especially those containing multivalent cations)
- Ranitidine
