Metformin is a biguanide anti-diabetic drug which suppresses hepatic glucose production. Unlike many other anti-diabetic drugs, does not cause hypoglycemia. Treatment must be combined with a balanced diet and exercise.

Usage

Metformin is used to treat:

• diabetes mellitus type 2

Drug interactions

Metformin may interact with such drugs, as:

• cimetidine
• cefalexin
• digoxin
• dofetilide
• entecavir
• morphine
• nifedipine
• procainamide
• ranitidine
• trimethoprim
• trospium
• vancomycin

Metformin possible side effects

• lactic acidosis
• constipation,
• diarrhea,
• nausea,
• vomiting

Metformin and pregnancy / lactation.

Use during pregnancy with caution.

Do not use during breast-feeding.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
