Levofloxacin is a third-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic,
which works by inhibiting DNA gyrase, an enzyme that negatively supercoils DNA.
Without DNA replication and transcription, DNA repair, recombination, and transposition
bacteria cell can't survive.
Usage.
Levofloxacin is used to treat:
- prostatitis,
- sinusitis,
- anthrax,
- pneumonia,
- urinary tract infection,
- bronchitis,
- skin and skin structure infections
Drug interactions.
Levofloxacin may interact with:
- Glyburide,
- Metal cations (aluminum, calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc),
- erythromycin,
- cisapride,
- antipsychotics,
- cyclic antidepressants.
