Generic Naprosyn

Naproxen 275/500mg

Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, which inhibits both COX-1 and COX-2. It appears that its analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory activity are achieved more through COX-2 inhibition.

The result of this inhibition is decreased formation of prostaglandin precursors and reduction of inflammatory process.

Usage

Naproxen is used to treat:

• osteoarthritis,
• rheumatoid arthritis,
• dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps)
• fever and pain
• psoriatic arthritis
• gout
• ankylosing spondylitis
• tendinitis

Drug interactions

Naproxen may interact with such drugs, as:

• Angiotensin II antagonists
• Anticoagulants
• Antiplatelet drugs (ticlopidine, clopidogrel, aspirin, abciximab, dipyridamole, eptifibatide, tirofiban)
• Cholestyramine
• Corticosteroids
• Cyclosporine
• Lithium
• Loop diuretic's
• Methotrexate

• Diarrhea

• Skin rash
• Dyspepsia

Naproxen and pregnancy / lactation

Do not use during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Naproxen and children

Ibuprofen may be used in children aged 2 years.
