Ketoconazole 200 mg
Ketoconazole is a synthetic antifungal drug, which works principally
by inhibition of synthesis of ergosterol, a constituent of fungi cell membranes.
Ketoconazole inhibits growth of dermatophytes and yeast species such as Candida
albicans.
Usage.
Ketoconazole is used to treat:
- fungal infections (candidiasis, oral thrush, blastomycosis, histoplasmosis)
- cutaneous dermatophytoses;
- tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea versicolor
- antifungal therapy in immunocompromised patients
Drug interactions.
Ketokonazole may interact with such drugs, as:
- Benzodiazepines (Alprazolam, diazepam)
- Busulfan
- Calcium channel blockers
- Erythromycin
- Immunosuppressants (Cyclosporine, tacrolimus)
- Oral contraceptives
- Proton pump inhibitors
- Zolpidem
Nizoral (Ketokonazole) possible side effects.
- Dizziness,
- headache,
- fever,
- nausea, vomiting
- an allergic reaction
- pruritus
Lamisil and pregnancy / lactation.
Avoid use in pregnancy since treatment of onychomycosis is
postponable.
Do not take this medication if you are breast-feeding a baby.
