Generic Nizoral

Ketoconazole 200 mg

Ketoconazole is a synthetic antifungal drug, which works principally by inhibition of synthesis of ergosterol, a constituent of fungi cell membranes. Ketoconazole inhibits growth of dermatophytes and yeast species such as Candida albicans.

Usage.

Ketoconazole is used to treat:

• fungal infections (candidiasis, oral thrush, blastomycosis, histoplasmosis)
• cutaneous dermatophytoses;
• tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea versicolor
• antifungal therapy in immunocompromised patients
  
  

Drug interactions.

Ketokonazole may interact with such drugs, as:

• Benzodiazepines (Alprazolam, diazepam)
• Busulfan
• Calcium channel blockers
• Erythromycin
• Immunosuppressants (Cyclosporine, tacrolimus)
• Oral contraceptives
• Proton pump inhibitors
• Zolpidem

Nizoral (Ketokonazole) possible side effects.

• Dizziness,
• headache,
• fever,
• nausea, vomiting
• an allergic reaction
• pruritus
  

Lamisil and pregnancy / lactation.

Avoid use in pregnancy since treatment of onychomycosis is postponable.

Do not take this medication if you are breast-feeding a baby.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
