Generic Pravachol

Pravastatin 10/20mg

Pravastatin is a statin which is used to lower cholesterol levels. It inhibits the rate limiting enzyme in cholesterol synthesis. This results in a stimulation of cholesterol catabolism.

Usage

Pravastatin is used to treat:

• dyslipidemia,
• hypercholesterolemia
• hypertriglyceridemia
• prevention of CVD

Drug interactions

Pravastatin may interact with such drugs, as:

• antacids
• Cholestyramine and colestipol
• Clofibrate and fenofibrate
• Digoxin
• Grapefruit juice

Pravastatin possible side effects

• raised liver enzymes
• skeletal muscle damage
• difficulty sleeping
• dizziness
• headache
• nausea, vomiting
• stomach pain or indigestion

Pravastatin and pregnancy / lactation

Do not use during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
