Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that destroys the ability of the parietal cells to produce gastric acid. Omeprazole is one of the most widely prescribed drugs.

Usage

Omeprazole is used to treat:

• dyspepsia,
• peptic ulcer disease (PUD),
• gastroesophageal reflux disease
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
• in anti-Helicobacter therapy
  

Drug interactions

Omeprazole may interact with such drugs, as:

• Benzodiazepines
• Carbamazepine
• Itraconazole and ketoconazole
• Phenytoin
• Protease inhibitors
• Warfarin
  

Omeprazole possible side effects

• headache
• dizziness
• rash
• diarrhea
• abdominal pain
• nausea
• weakness
• back pain
• upper respiratory infection
• cough

Omeprazole and pregnancy / lactation

Do not use during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
