Medroxyprogesterone 10mg

Depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) is a progestin-only hormonal contraceptive birth control drug which contains progestin medroxyprogesterone acetate. It inhibits follicular development and prevents ovulation.

Usage

Medroxyprogesterone is used for:

• endometriosis,
• abnormal menstrual bleeding
• amenorrhea
• oral contraception

Drug interactions

Medroxyprogesterone may interact with such drugs, as:

• antibiotics or medicines for infections,
• barbiturate medicines such as phenobarbital, may be used to induce sleep or to treat seizures
• bosentan
• bromocriptine
• medications for treating seizures (convulsions) such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, or primidone
• modafinil

Medroxyprogesterone possible side effects

• headache
• breast pain
• abdominal pain
• breast tenderness or discharge
• numbness or pain in the arm or leg
• pain in the chest, groin or leg
• severe headache
• stomach pain
• sudden shortness of breath
• unusual weakness or tiredness
• vision or speech problems
• yellowing of skin or eyes

Medroxyprogesterone and pregnancy / lactation

Do not use during pregnancy.

May be used during breast-feeding.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
