Levothyroxine is a synthetic thyroid hormone which acts as a replacement for people whose thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. It improves normal metabolism, growth, and development, stimulates protein synthesis, increases basal metabolic rate.

Usage

Levothyroxine is used to treat:

• hypothyroidism

Drug interactions

Levothyroxine may interact with such drugs, as:

• Aluminum- and magnesium-containing antacids
• Antidiabetic agents
• Cholestyramine and colestipol
• Digoxin
• Estrogens
• Iron
• Theophylline, caffeine
• Tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants
• Warfarin

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
