Carbamazepine 100/200mg

Carbamazepine has anticonvulsant effect, also anticholinergic, antineuralgic, antidiuretic, muscle relaxant, antimanic, antidepressive, and antiarrhythmic properties. It is chemically related to tricyclic antidepressants.

Carbamazepine stabilizes the inactivated state of sodium channels, making brain cells less excitable.

Usage.

Carbamazepine is used to treat:

• epilepsy
• bipolar disorder
• schizophrenia,
• Paroxysmal extreme pain disorder,
• trigeminal neuralgia.
  

Drug interactions.

Carbamazepine may interact with:

• Acetaminophen
• Antimalarial drugs (chloroquine, mefloquine)
• Antipsychotics
• Barbiturates
• Benzodiazepines
• Calcium channel blockers
• Corticosteroids
• Doxycycline
• Immunosuppressants
• Lamotrigine
• Lithium
• Neuromuscular blocking agents
• Oral contraceptives
  

Carbamazepine possible side effects.

• vomiting,
• motor coordination impairment,
• upset stomach,
• extreme drowsiness,
• cardiac arrhythmias,
• blurry or double vision

Carbamazepine and pregnancy / lactation.

Do not use during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
