Topiramate 25/50/100mg

Topiramate is an anticonvulsant used in adults and children. It inhibits excitatory neurotransmission, blocks sodium channels in neurons and enhances GABA activity.

Usage

Topiramate is used to treat:

• epilepsy
• bipolar disorder
• Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (in children)
• migraine

Drug interactions

Topiramate may interact with:

• Anticholinergic drugs
• Carbamazepine
• CNS depressants
• Digoxin
• Valproic acid
• Oral contraceptives

Topiramate possible side effects

• tiredness,
• dizziness,
• difficulty with language,
• nausea,
• diarrhea,
• dry mouth,
• weight lost,
• decrease in appetite,
• drowsiness,
• anxiety,
• changes in taste and vision disorders.

Topiramate and pregnancy / lactation

Do not use during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Topiramate and children

Topiramate may be used in children aged 2 years.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
