Generic Tricor

Fenofibrate 200mg

Fenofibrate is a drug of the fibrate class. It increases cholesterol catabolism by enhancing the synthesis of lipoprotein lipase; this results in decrease of cholesterol levels.

Usage

Fenofibrate is used to treat:

• dyslipidemia,
• hypercholesterolemia
• hypertriglyceridemia
• prevention of CVD

Drug interactions

Fenofibrate may interact with such drugs, as:

• Ezetimibe
• HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (atorvastatin, fluvastatin, lovastatin, pravastatin, rosuvastatin, simvastatin)
• Sulfonylureas
• Warfarin

Fenofibrate possible side effects

• abdominal pain
• constipation
• ALT increased
• back pain
• rhinitis

Fenofibrate and pregnancy / lactation

Do not use during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
