Salbutamol or albuterol is a short-acting b2-adrenergic receptor agonist with little effect on heart rate which relaxes bronchial smooth muscle. It is available as a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) or a proprietary "disk-styled" inhaler that releases a powdered form of the drug.

Usage

Salbutamol is used to treat:

• asthma
• chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Drug interactions

Salbutamol may interact with such drugs, as:

• Beta-adrenergic blockers
• Inhaled ipratropium
• MAO inhibitors
• Tricyclic antidepressants
  

Salbutamol possible side effects.

• headache
• serum glucose increased,
• pharyngitis
• tachycardia,
• palpitation,
• cardiac arrhythmia
• nervousness,
• CNS stimulation,
• hyperactivity,
• insomnia,
• diarrhea, nausea
• upper respiratory infection,
• cough,
• bronchitis

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
