Nevirapine 200mg

Nevirapine is an antiviral drug, which inhibits the reverse transcriptase enzyme, an essential viral enzyme which transcribes viral RNA into DNA. Nevirapine is not effective against HIV-2, only against HIV - 1

Usage.

Nevirapine is used to treat:

• HIV-1 infection
• AIDS.
  

Drug interactions.

Nevirapine may interact with:

• anti-tuberculosis drugs
• antiretrovirals ( indinavir, lopinavir, nelfinavir and saquinavir)
• clarithromycin,
• ketoconazole,
• oral contraception

Nevirapine possible side effects.

• rash,
• Stevens-Johnson syndrome,
• toxic epidermal necrolysis
• hypersensitivity

Nevirapine and pregnancy / lactation.

It may be used during pregnancy, if it is recommended.

Do not use during lactation.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
