Generic Vytorin

Ezetimibe 10mg

Vytorin is a combination of ezetimibe and the statin drug simvastatin. Ezetimibe inhibits absorption of cholesterol and decreases delivery of cholesterol to the liver.

Simvastatin inhibits the enzyme that catalyzes the rate-limiting step in cholesterol biosynthesis.

Usage

Ezetimibe is used to treat:

• dyslipidemia,
• hypercholesterolemia

Drug interactions

Ezetimibe may interact with such drugs, as:

• Antacids
• Antifungals
• Calcium channel blockers
• Cyclosporine
• Fibric acid derivatives
• Grapefruit juice
• Niacin
• Warfarin

Ezetimibe possible side effects

• abdominal pain
• constipation
• headache
• myalgia
• pain in extremity

Ezetimibe and pregnancy / lactation

Do not use during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
