Zyrtec - Cetirizine in tablets.

CETIRIZINE is an antihistamine. It prevents the effects of histamine, which is produced by the body. Like many other antihistamine medications, Zyrtec has a combination with pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, a decongestant - Zurtec - D.

What is Zyrtec used for?

Zyrtec and other drugs.

Zyrtec may interact with some medicines that cause drowsiness, such as:

  • barbiturates such as phenobarbital
  • antidepressants or tranquilizers (for example, amitriptyline, chlorpromazine)
  • narcotics or pain medicines (for example, codeine, hydrocodone)
  • medicines used for anxiety or to help produce sleep (for example, alprazolam)
  • antihistamines used in cold medicines (for example, diphenhydramine or chlorpheniramine)

Possible side effects of Cetirizine

  • dry mouth
  • tiredness
  • allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue)
  • dark urine
  • yellowing of eyes or skin

Zyrtec (Zyrtec-D) and Pregnancy

Zyrtec-D may not be safe for use during pregnancy. The pregnant women should consult with their healthcare providers before taking the drug.

What is the shelf life of the pills?
